The Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) serves as the catalyst for enhancing the quality of the undergraduate student experience while promoting on-time graduation for all undergraduate students at IU Indianapolis. 3 units report up to the DUE: University College, Honors College and the Institute for Engaged Learning.Job Summary
The TRIO Student Support Services Academic Advisor and Coordinator for Academic Enrichment has the responsibility for organizing and maintaining the peer mentoring services of the Program through, hiring, training and supervising the peer mentoring staff.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Helps coordinate the academic services of the TRIO-Student Support Services program through ensuring the provision of excellent college advising, academic coaching, and tutoring services.
- Responsile for ongoing academic advising and counseling to a roster of student participants and this involves providing advising, career counseling, and case management tracking of student participants through university and program software systems.
- Assists program participants with processing the challenges of college.
- Assists program participants with exploring their general education core needs.
- Assists program participants with locating and understanding their degree and application / certification requirements.
- Assists program participants with learning how to create a 4 year plan using technology resources and tools.
- Maintains advising records of students.
- Applies policies and procedures, assess risk factors, and make referrals.
- Attends meetings, trainings with University College advisors.
- Hires, Trains, and supervisor academic coaches.
- Tracks academic enrichment (e.g., tutoring, study tables, etc.) contacts with students.
- Meets individually with academic coaches to discuss mentees.
- Coordinates academic enrichment activities (e.g., study tables, high-impact practices and engaged learning experiences, and graduate school preparation, etc.).
- Creates workshops that fit the academic mission of the program.
- Facilitates or provides speakers to conduct the workshop.
- Provides academic counseling for students pursuing or considering majors, minors, or certificates. Guides students in planning their course of study in concert with the departments' curricular requirements; explains curriculum requirements and school and campus policies.
- Meets with students in groups and 1-on-1 to guide students in academic programs that will meet their educational needs and the requirements of their chosen major, minor, and/or certificate. Assesses student satisfaction and engagement with advising and recommends improvements in practice.
- Assists students in making informed decisions about a choice of major and potential career or graduate school direction; helps students to assess their interests, values, and academic skills and to understand these in relation to major choice and potential future career/graduate school options.
- Teaches students how to navigate university systems, academic processes, and policies; empowers student accountability in academic decisions about courses, career direction, and long-term plans; and provides guidance on avenues for increased involvement as an IU student and in the IU community.
- Refers students to appropriate campus resources, such as academic support resources, placement programs, internship and overseas study opportunities, etc.
- Tracks and monitors students' academic progress, reviews and maintains confidential student records to ensure that students meet requirements and to document advising discussions, and communicates this information in a timely manner to students and to appropriate academic offices when necessary.
- Represents the advising function as a presenter at campus meetings and recruiting functions; assists in developing written advising materials for use in student events. Assesses the effectiveness of messaging and timing of communications related to advising topics and technologies.
- Researches, recommends, or creates best practices for unit or campus initiatives, projects, processes, or programs and regularly provides guidance to other Academic Advisors.
- Roles above the Core career level may include expanded duties and leadership and/or higher expectations of performance in line with the campus advising ecosystem.

- Master's degree in related field
Required
- 5 years in student affairs, teaching, academic advising, or related field. Previous experience in a student-focused, higher education environment is highly desired.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$46,000 - $49,000 based on experience
