What You Will Do
- Personalized Advising: Provide academic advising to students, helping them understand their degree requirements, choose courses, and plan their academic journey in both the short and long term.
- Goal Exploration: Sit down with students to explore their academic and career goals. You'll help them clarify their interests and aspirations, guiding them to the best path forward.
- Resource Connector: Help students access and navigate university resources, whether it's career services, tutoring, counseling, or academic workshops. You'll make sure students know where to go for the support they need.
- Guidance & Support: Offer counsel on academic challenges, such as course difficulties, time management, and stress. Your advice will help students overcome obstacles and stay on track.
- Degree Planning: Assist students in selecting the right degree programs and guide them through the requirements and opportunities available at SIUE. You'll be their partner in making thoughtful academic decisions.
- Referral Specialist: When students need help outside your wheelhouse, you'll connect them to the right campus offices and services-whether it's for academic support, career advice, or personal development.
- Holistic Approach: Engage with students to ensure they see their academic experience in the context of their personal growth and future aspirations. Your guidance will help them understand the "why" behind their university experience, beyond just the coursework.

Salary Information
Academic Advisor I - $42,500
Academic Advisor II - $45,500
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Academic Advisor I Master's degree
Academic Advisor II Master's degree plus 2 years of academic advising experience

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university, and it's important to highlight that benefits from state-sponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
