Job Description:
The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center seeks an Associate Director for Public Services. The desired candidate shall be a strong service orientated, self-motivated leader; shall have excellent attention to detail and superior organizational and analytical skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member. The Associate Director is primarily responsible for managing the library's Reference and Circulation Departments, including instruction and faculty services, and oversees the Law Library in the absence of the Director.
Job Responsibilities:
Develops and implements public services policies and procedures, in consultation with relevant librarians and staff members. Directly supervises public services librarians, including the Head of Access Services & Government Information, Reference Librarian(s), and the Foreign Comparative and International Law Librarian. (40%)
Coordinates the reference desk and other research services, including services to law faculty and students. (20%)
Develops and oversees legal research instruction programs, including the development and teaching of credit-based courses and coordinating the scheduling of those research classes; coordinates overall law library educational and instructional programs. Teaches legal research courses. (20%)
In conjunction with the Collection Development Committee, selects and recommends new and retrospective materials in appropriate formats for purchase; and recommends deselection of resources form the collection as appropriate. (10%)
Oversees operations of the Law Library in the absence of the Director. (5%)
Other duties as may be required for the efficient and effective operation of the LSU Law Center Library. (5%)
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
- 5 years of experience in a law library
Preferred Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited institution
- M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library school
- 5 years of experience in a law library
