*THE SEMINOLE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS OFFERING A $15,000 HIRING INCENTIVE FOR CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WITH AT LEAST 4 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE!*
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of DEPUTY SHERIFF.
To be eligible for the hiring incentive, applicants must have four (4) years of experience as a certified Law Enforcement officer.
The hiring incentive of $15,000 will be broken down as follows:
$5,000 – first paycheck
$4,000 – After 1 year of employment
$3,000 – After 2 years of employment
$2,000 – After 3 years of employment
$1,000 – After 4 years of employment
Applicants eligible for the hiring incentive who successfully gain employment with SCSO as a Deputy Sheriff will be required to sign an employment agreement committing them to maintaining employment with SCSO for one year. If the employment agreement is broken, the employee will be required to reimburse SCSO the first $15,000 hiring incentive payment of $5,000.
The position of Deputy Sheriff pro-actively performs generalized law enforcement and public safety work in the protection of life and property and serves as a community resource to reduce the fear of crime by identifying and resolving crime and other problems through law enforcement procedures, community interaction, and community involvement.
The starting salary is $58,024 ($25.95 per hour), plus the potential for additional holiday pay up to $3,425 for those employees who work twelve (12) hour shifts. The Sheriff's Office offers a competitive benefits package including retirement benefits under the Florida Retirement System (FRS), paid medical/dental/life insurance, generous leave accrual, wellness benefits, education incentives and assistance.
Persons who gain or are appointed as full-time Certified Law Enforcement Officers with a Florida criminal justice agency on or after July 1, 2022 and who have never previously been employed as a Law Enforcement Officer within the State of Florida, are eligible for a One-Time Bonus Payment of $5,000.
Bonus payments are considered to be taxable income, and will be issued by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) in the gross amount of $6,694 (includes $1,694 for the payment of taxes). The DEO remains responsible for issuing payments and enforcing repayment, should the recipient leave employment as a Law Enforcement Officer before the two-year agreement has been completed. Requirements
Typical Duties
- Identifies and resolves problems in area served; develop strategies, programs, and crime prevention methods and facilitates community interest and involvement in a variety of endeavors intended to enhance community life. Interacts with and attends Neighborhood Watch homeowner association meetings and serves as a liaison to various committees as assigned
- Enforces/ensures compliance with Federal and State laws, local ordinances, and judicial compliance orders; Contacts and monitors career criminals, early release inmates and probationers to facilitate successful re-integration back into the community
- Enters crime and other reports into laptop computers; prepares investigative and other reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols, and mathematical computations
- Gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses, suspects and confidential informers
- Apprehends fleeing suspects and performs rescue operations at accidents, emergencies, and disasters to include directing traffic for long periods of time; administering emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging, and carrying people away from dangerous situations; and securing and evacuating people from particular areas
- Loads, unloads, aims, and fires from a variety of body positions, handguns, shotguns, and other agency approved firearms under conditions of stress that justify the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in certification standards
- Reads and comprehends legal and non-legal documents, including the preparation and processing of such documents as citations, affidavits, and warrants
Minimum Qualifications
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age
- Applicants must be a United States citizen
- Applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License
- Applicants must possess a State of Florida Certificate of Completion and/or Certification of Compliance. Law Enforcement Academy students are eligible to apply, but must currently be enrolled in a Law Enforcement Academy before submitting a Pre-Screen Questionnaire.
- Must pass a physical examination with drug screening by a licensed physician
- All applicants must submit to a background investigation in accordance with FDLE standards
- Must not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, nor have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License
- All applicants will be required to take a Physical Abilities Test (P.A.T.), Civil Service written examination, and Firearms qualification. Applicants must score at least 70% on the Civil Service examination in each of the four (4) sections (math, reading comprehension, grammar, and report writing) and must pass the firearms qualification test with a score of 33 out of 38 or better
