Role Overview
Metric5 is seeking an Enterprise AI/ML Technical Advisor to provide technical leadership and mentorship in the practical application of traditional and generative AI within the federal government. This role combines deep hands-on technical expertise with the ability to coach and enable agency teams, helping them integrate AI into their large-scale data environments to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse.
You will serve as a trusted advisor, offering input, reviews, and technical support on enterprise AI initiatives, the adoption of AWS and Snowflake-based architectures, and chatbot deployment strategies. At the same time, you'll work side-by-side with federal employees to build their knowledge, confidence, and independence in applying AI effectively. Success is measured not only in solutions delivered, but in the capability uplift of the federal teams you mentor.
How This Role Differs
Unlike typical AI roles focused solely on model development and delivery, this position emphasizes capacity building. You'll bring the credibility of an architect-level practitioner while focusing on knowledge transfer and enablement—ensuring federal teams can sustain, scale, and govern AI solutions themselves.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on the architecture and deployment of AI/ML and GenAI solutions in large-scale, secure enterprise environments.
- Demonstrate practical applications of AI for fraud detection, workflow automation, and chatbot/virtual assistant deployments.
- Advise on cloud and data architectures to support AI/ML integration and scalability.
- Mentor federal teams, adapting coaching approaches to skill gaps, learning styles, and organizational context.
- Translate stakeholder needs into actionable AI/ML use cases and solution architectures.
- Ensure AI deployments meet security, governance, and responsible AI standards.
- Support federal leaders in understanding both the potential and limitations of AI to inform policy and product planning.
Required Qualifications
- Cloud & Infrastructure
- Strong experience architecting and deploying solutions in AWS and/or Azure, ideally in secure enterprise or government environments.
- Proficiency with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep).
- Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS/AKS).
- Familiarity with serverless computing (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions).
- Understanding of cloud compliance and security frameworks (FedRAMP, HIPAA, IAM, RBAC, Zero Trust).
- Data & AI/ML
- Experience integrating with enterprise-scale data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, or Azure Synapse.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deploy applied AI/ML solutions in production environments.
- Practical MLOps/LLMOps experience: deployment pipelines, monitoring, model lifecycle management.

Familiarity with additional cloud providers (GCP, Oracle Cloud).

Knowledge of ETL/ELT tools (AWS Glue, DataBrew, Azure Data Factory, DBT).

Experience with real-time and batch data processing (Kafka, Kinesis).

AI/ML Specialties
- Hands-on with Generative AI frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, HuggingFace).
- Deployment of chatbots or conversational AI at scale.
- Familiarity with vector databases (Pinecone, FAISS, Weaviate, Milvus).
- Experience with cloud-native ML services (AWS SageMaker, Bedrock; Azure ML; GCP Vertex AI).
- Knowledge of responsible AI practices (explainability, bias mitigation).

Professional & Contextual
- Experience in regulated industries (federal, healthcare, finance).
- Familiarity with procurement, governance, or compliance processes in complex enterprises.
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree or higher preferred.
Salary Range: $160,000 $190,000 annually
Location: Remote within the United States (monthly travel to Baltimore, MD required)
Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust/Suitability, which includes a requirement of U.S. residency for three out of the last five years
