Description
The City of Cherry Hills Village is seeking qualified, dedicated, and community-minded individuals for the position of Police Officer in the Police Department. This essential public safety role is responsible for protecting life and property, enforcing laws and ordinances, and fostering positive community relations. Competitive pay commensurate with qualifications and experience, step pay plan $74,984- $104,369. Candidates must be able to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrol assigned areas of the City on foot or in a vehicle to deter and detect criminal activity and provide a visible safety presence.
- Respond promptly and professionally to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including accidents, disturbances, and alarms.
- Enforce state and local laws, ordinances, and traffic regulations.
- Conduct thorough investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing accurate reports.
- Engage proactively with the community to promote public awareness, crime prevention programs, and build public trust.
- Testify in court and administrative proceedings as required.
- Maintain professional standards in all interactions with City residents, visitors, and colleagues.
- Participate in ongoing training, and professional development.
Requirements
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
- Successful completion of a state-approved police academy and current POST certification (or ability to obtain within designated period).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including but not limited to criminal history, driving record, polygraph, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.
- Strong knowledge of public safety practices, applicable laws, and community policing principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, fair, and objective during emergencies and adverse situations.
