Knowledge & Education
Graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent.
Knowledge of public safety codes and regulations governing public safety communications, including the Penal Code, Vehicle Code, Health and Safety Code, Business and Professions Code, and related requirements.
Familiarity with budgeting practices, supervisory principles and leadership techniques.
Knowledge of procedures, systems, equipment and techniques involved in 911 and related emergency dispatching operations and the handling of non-emergency calls; telephone/radio recording devices and applicable laws; radio, telephone, and console TDD equipment operations.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.
This position is expected to be on stand-by for emergency call outs and to be able to work extended hours, including work on normally scheduled days off.

Requirements
Skills/Abilities
Operate an emergency communications console and related telecommunications and security monitoring equipment.
Use computer-aided dispatch software as well as word processing, scheduling and spreadsheet software.
Select, train, supervise and evaluate the work of employees, schedule personnel.
Analyze and solve administrative and operational problems.
Develop and implement goals, policies, procedures, work standards and management controls for dispatching purposes.
Prepare clear and concise records, reports, correspondence and other written materials.
Exercise independent judgment and initiative within general policy guidelines.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff, management, vendors and the general public; remain calm and communicate distinctly and precisely in emergency situations.
Experience
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience comparable to a Public Safety Dispatcher with the City of Corona, including at least two (2) years in a capacity comparable to the City’s Senior Public Safety Dispatcher classification.
Possession of a valid P.O.S.T. Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid CLETS Certification, to be maintained throughout employment.
Ability to obtain a P.O.S.T. Dispatcher Supervisor Certificate, First Aid, and CPR Certification within 6 months of employment, to be maintained throughout employment.
