Position Summary The Miller Learning Center Facilities and Security Manager reports to the Libraries Facilities Director and has primary responsibility for planning and coordinating facility and security management for the University of Georgia Miller Learning Center (MLC), a 24/5 academic classroom and library facility that is 200,000 sqft and receives more than 2 million visitors annually. The Manager supervises a team of approximately 5 full time staff and a student workforce of about 20, ensuring the safety of building personnel and patrons, facilitating work with UGA's Facilities Management Division concerning facilities operations and maintenance issues, maintaining environmental / safety regulation compliance including coordination of emergency plans and operations, as well as monitoring reservations and events in both classrooms and public spaces.
Work involves managing personnel, developing appropriate policies and programs, monitoring the building and grounds, responding to emergency situations, ordering and inventorying supplies and equipment, and scheduling and monitoring a sophisticated intrusion, fire alarm, camera system, and card access.
Assignments are carried out under established policies and procedures and the employee must exercise quick, independent, and sound judgment and display initiative in applying resolution to emergency situations that arise. The Manager is expected to work at night and on weekends as needed and to be recallable for duty in 30 minutes to respond to after-hour emergencies or security issues. The Manager is a member of the Libraries facilities management team which includes personnel in the Main Library, McBay Science Library, and Special Collections Library, in addition to the Miller Learning Center. Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities Manages Miller Learning Center building operations and support by hiring, training, delegating, and evaluating the work of the MLC security team, which consists of approximately 5 full time staff reports and 20 student workers.
Monitors and resolves problems concerning facility usage, operations, equipment malfunction, etc. by liaising with appropriate partners which may include the MLC custodial team, Libraries Student Success team, the Facilities Management Division, and off-campus maintenance personnel Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities Manages the MLC's emergency preparedness program by providing on-site leadership for response to emergency situations, monitoring and responding to the alarm systems, developing detailed emergency procedures for the building, training other building staff to provide basic assistance, and handling related issues and problems according to departmental and university safety and security policies.
Monitors maintenance of all fire, security, and camera systems and acts as liaison with vendors and/or installers of these systems; Acts as liaison with campus administrators and vendors to resolve issues, provide training needs, and install upgrades for the building's access and control system.
Promotes access and security of MLC and by coordinating the assignment, order, and return of appropriate keys and maintenance and repair of all locks. Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities Formulates, implements, interprets, and assesses all facilities usage and security policies and procedures, by maintaining awareness of and anticipating changes and needs, and communicating and discussing those needs with appropriate campus personnel from Facilities Management Division, ESD and Public Safety.
Organizes and provides security coverage for special events (including home football games) by assessing security needs and providing personnel.
Coordinates the daily building schedule and usage by monitoring and programming the security system and surveillance cameras, lighting systems, completing correspondence, usage statistics, building signage, and hours listings. Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities Organize and manage Community Service fulfillment at the MLC by working with the Office of Student Conduct and the Student to fulfill their assigned hours on campus. Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities Keeps the Director of the MLC Library and other appropriate personnel informed of facilities, security and related issues by communicating and interpreting appropriate university policies and procedures, concerns and issues.
Prepares and routes statistical reports and logs, and maintains updated manuals as needed by reviewing all daily procedures and revising information to reflect changes in the unit.
Participates in general administrative functions by serving on appropriate MLC, Library, or campus work groups or committees.
Maintains flexibility and awareness of changes and needs in the organization by assuming similar duties and responsibilities as assigned to facilitate the workflow throughout the Department. Percentage of time 10
