***SIGN ON BONUS $1,000 Part Time / $5,000 Full Time *** Ends September 30, 2023*         

Public Safety Telecommunicator
Responsible for receiving, processing, and managing time-life critical emergency, non-emergency, and administrative calls for service; operating the 911 console; receiving, routing and dispersing telephone calls/messages; and providing assistance to the public/agency employees/other county personnel. Incumbent must dispatch calls for service; and notify agencies of robberies and priority events. Duties also include completing assignments/special projects, as directed; completing, updating, submitting required reports/documents/forms; and maintaining control of and follow up on incoming correspondence/action documents.  Training will begin at the call taking position. Prior experience and certification may considerably limit the time required in training.

Minimum qualifications and requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Typing 35 wpm
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential and professional manner
  • Performs effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Certifications are not required for hire. All training will be provided.

          Preferred:
          Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification, CPR/AED, FEMA Emergency Preparedness/Management courses,

          CJIS certification, NCIC/FCIC certification, IPTM certification (Certified Communications Training Officers)

  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in a variety of life threatening and emergency situations as well as handle irate and hysterical callers in a calm, courteous, and professional manner
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in a variety of situations as well as handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and an economically and ethnically diverse general public
  • Ability to recognize and understand others' reactions, use logic and reasoning to identify solutions, and make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances
  • Ability to simultaneously communicate, interpret communications, and enter data at sufficient speed to accurately complete information for computer aided dispatch system
  • Ability to prioritize work and to accurately research, enter, and/or retrieve information from various computer systems and/or programs in a timely manner
  • Ability to provide status updates and alerts to proper authorities according to policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of telephone answering techniques, radio dispatching, and teletype policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the geography of the county, general landmarks, and road network
  • Knowledge of modern police communications methods, and dispatch codes/signals used
  • Knowledge of communications center systems, resources, and procedures
  • Knowledge of FCIC/NCIC rules and regulations, codes, and query forms
  • Skill in the use of computers, two-way radio communications, and various other equipment used to perform daily functions
  • Skill in interviewing/eliciting critical information from citizens in stressful or life threatening situations
