Role: Education Advisor 

Reports to: Director of Education Services 

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Remote Friendly) 

Hours: Full-time

Overview of the role

The Education Advisor uses a Mobility Mentoring approach to help women reach self-sufficiency through successfully enrolling and graduating women from education and workforce training programs. 

What you’ll do:

  • Curates, updates, and leads workshops related to education, scholarships and FAFSA. This includes regular program classes and individual topic specific workshops, both in-person and virtually. 
  • Supports adult students through consultations, program knowledge, and financial aid assistance.
  • Guides adult students through the program matriculation process.
  • Responds to phone and email inquiries on the status of Fresh Start application(s) for workforce programs and scholarships.
  • Provides dedicated, exceptional support to each participant to address their educational needs and build a strong foundation for their long-term success. 
  • Provide one-on-one coaching for participants addressing educational issues and goals. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, reviewing past educational achievements, providing guidance on educational pursuits that align with career goals, researching and compiling a list of scholarship opportunities, and assisting clients with FAFSA and scholarship applications. 
  • Researches and identifies student aid, grants, and other funding opportunities available to clients.
  • Assist participants in the college or course enrollment and registration process, including completing Financial Aid application (FAFSA) and applying for grants and scholarships.
  • Monitor participants' progress in their education and job training and respond promptly to participants' issues.
  • Develop personalized education and job training plans for each program participant.
  • Use a case management approach to identify necessary supports and make appropriate internal and external referrals.
  • Facilitates all enrollment activities for students pursuing program matriculation.
  • Build relationships with instructors, coordinators and all other appropriate college and agency staff to enhance the training experience of the participant and facilitate progress towards graduation.
  • Conduct exit interviews with all recent graduates and maintain contact to obtain employment and wage information.
  • Plans opportunities to recognize and celebrate client educational accomplishments.

Requirements

Work Environment: 

  • Occasionally lift to 35 pounds 
  • Prolonged sitting in front of a computer
  • Work extended hours, including evenings and/or weekends as needed

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3+ years’ experience in adult education, college counseling, financial aid counseling, or other related field.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with adult students
  • Successfully meets and exceeds goals, but always thrives to break the record
  • Bilingual Spanish
