The Lieutenant is responsible for the operation of police & protective service team that falls under their area of responsibility and is responsible for supporting system-wide department initiatives when called upon. Specific duties include maintaining appropriate staffing levels, collaborating with clinical shift leaders to solve immediate safety concerns, and reviewing the proper execution of all department policies and procedures. The Lieutenant must be prepared to make emergency access control, fire prevention, and workplace violence decisions. The Lieutenant will be responsible for scheduling, training, accountability, and development of officers under their section in accordance with policy and procedures. The Lieutenant must be well versed in security, healthcare security, HIPPA policies along with pharmacy regulations, and other healthcare related regulations. The Lieutenant must implement the department operation plan and goals of the department consistent with the hospital goals.
Responsibilities:
1. Staff Accountability: Responsible for assuring all employees have met their requirements and licenses before staffing and follows disciplinary procedure if employee has failed to renew needed certifications so as not to interrupt his/her normal responsibilities.
2. Employee Morale: Follow up and resolve, in a timely manner, any issues affecting employee morale and/or give positive recognition to exceptional employees.
3. Human Resource Management: Responsible for hiring and terminating in accordance with hospital policy. Responsible to fairly and equitably administer all Human Resource policies and utilize additional leadership support as needed.
4. Ensure all employees have completed all annual employment requirements including and follows disciplinary procedure if employee has failed to do so.
5. Directs assigned personnel.
6. Prepares and/or approves work schedules and modifies schedules to reflect changing workload and employee needs, as necessary.
7. Develops employee performance capabilities and prepares/presents performance reviews of assigned staff with knowledge and approval of leaders.
8. Counsels employees with performance or behavioral problems.
9. Keeps assigned employees fully informed regarding organizational, departmental or personnel matters which affect them, on a timely basis.
10. Responds to calls for assistance. Responds to calls for assisting with patients, visitors or employees as requested. Responds to calls for help with unruly, abusive, combative, threatening, or armed persons. Responds to fire and security alarms.
11. Collaborates and communicates with departmental and system personnel, and with outside law enforcement personnel.
13. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all with whom collaboration is necessary. Establishes positive working relationships with all managers to enhance their perception of the Security Department by working with them to resolve issues and concerns.
14. Performs other duties as needed.
15. Accomplishes routine and non-routine miscellaneous assignments in accordance with procedure or instructions, and time frames.
Requirements
Education Requirements:
Associate's Degree is preferred
License/Certifications Requirements:
Basic Law Enforcement Training program (BLET) or Military/Combat Arms experience or Security Training experience is preferred.
Preference will be given to candidates with current NC police certification
Otherwise, ability to obtain a security firearms certificate within 90 days of hire
North Carolina Driver's License (NCDL) within 90 days of hire
Professional Experience Requirements:
5-8 years of Operations - Security/Surveillance, Supervisor or Management experience
