Description

Position Purpose:

Lead the effort in engagement and support in a specific geographic area of the U.S.  Directly solicit support for the ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency, Presbyterian Church, U.S.A and the Office of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.  This includes World Mission, Compassion, Peace and Justice ministries, Racial Equity and Women Intercultural Ministries, and Theology, Formation and Evangelism, Per Capita and any other ministries or programs as assigned.

  1. Promote and interpret Matthew 25 as they relate to the directional goals of the Presbyterian Mission Agency.
  2. Promote and interpret the work and priorities of the Office of the General Assembly.
  3. Increase knowledge and engagement in the mission of the Presbyterian Church. U.S.A.
  4. Increase confidence in the Presbyterian Mission Agency and Office of the General Assembly.
  5. Solicit gifts in support of the Presbyterian Mission Agency and office of the General Assembly from congregations and individuals.  (There may be occasions when there will be an opportunity to solicit funds from mid-councils and private foundations.)

Position Description:

  1. Support and encourage the mission, vision, identity, values and mission work plan of the Presbyterian Mission Agency and the Office of the General Assembly in attitude, work ethic, behaviors, and relationships!
  2. Interpret and promote the mission of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. in support of the ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency and Office of the General Assembly. Maintain the highest ethical standards of fundraising.
  3. Cultivate, solicit, and steward congregations and presbyteries in order to build and maintain relationships which sustain and increase financial support. Serve as a knowledgeable and articulate spokesperson for the Presbyterian Mission Agency and Office of the General Assembly.  Each MEA may have a ministry area that they have particular expertise.  In certain instances, they may be called upon to work in another region in order to best present to a congregation or a donor.
  4. Set up appointments with individual donors for themselves or with a program staff person. Provide background, a briefing and plan for the call.
  5. Work collaboratively with Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA) and Office of the General Assembly (OGA) program staff.
  6. Participate in program planning; provide an “ask” at events as appropriate.
  7. Adhere to the expectations of reporting contacts and activities and submit weekly reports to the Development Operations office.


Requirements

Essential Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Bachelor of Arts in Communication or Education is helpful.  A Master of Divinity degree is a plus.
  • 3+ years in fundraising with non-profits or church organizations
  • Knowledge of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). A member of an active congregation of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. is especially helpful in this work.
  • Solid understanding of the research and analysis required for successful fund raising.
  • Proven success record with building a successful fundraising program.
  • Willing and able to travel, make own arrangements and maintain personal records.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Membership with an active congregation of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. is especially helpful in this work.

Helpful Skills:

  • Have a deep understanding and commitment to cultural and racial ethnic inclusiveness.  Values diverse groups, ethnicities, genders, communities, cultural constituencies and points of view.  Able to relate well to people from all walks of life and of varying theological perspectives
  • Ability to speak one or more languages other than English very helpful

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires the ability to work evening/weekend hours on occasion to support events/programs/travel.
  • Requires the ability to see, hear, speak, type, write, and move from one location to another while performing tasks.
